WEST TEXAS - Christmas and New Years have come and gone and so has the ginning season for several cotton gins in the area. Four gins have reported final numbers, two are not returning phone calls, one never opened for ginning and three others are still pumping out bales. Of those finished, Tarzan reported 27,455 bales for the year and Stanton counted 10,850. Midkiff was just under 40,000 bales with a total report of 39,987 and Ackerly churned out 26,841 bales this season. Midkiff never opened the doors and Big Spring and Lomax did not return phone calls before time of press. Flower Grove still has a couple more days before finishing up and reported a current number of 22,388 bales. St. Lawrence and Knott are still going strong with bales counts reaching 84,981 and 17,400 respectively. Bales counts will be reported again next week with final numbers from Flower Grove, Big Spring and Lomax.
