Junior varsity Buffs win, lose district games by the narrowest of margins

STANTON – The Lady Buffaloes junior varsity basketball team had two super close games before Christmas break with Stanton winning one game by one point and losing the other by one point.

On Dec. 17, Stanton traveled to Anson for the first district game of the season.

Stanton jumped out to a 10-3 lead after the first quarter and stretched the lead to 16-7 by halftime.

Anson had Stanton’s number in the second half and started chipping away at the lead. With eight minutes left Stanton was still up 18-11.

In the final few moments, the game was up for grabs but Stanton held on for the 22-21 victory.

Vivian Soloranzo led all scorers with 12 points and Rylee Murry tallied six points.

Madyson Gallegos and Macy Nix rounded out the books with two points each.

On Dec. 20, Stanton welcomed Colorado City two town. The two teams traded blows for four quarters with the eventual winner doing so by one point.

C-City took the lead out of the gate 13-8 but Stanton took control midway at 24-20.

The Lady Buffs continued to lead at the end of the third quarter 32-29 but it was the Lady Wolves making the last shot of the game for a 36-36 win.

Gallegos finished with a game high 16 points. Murry contributed nine points followed by Villa with three, Soloranzo two, Chaselyn Fisher two, and Jillian Reyes one.

Stanton will be in Merkel on Friday and will host Clyde next Tuesday. Games are set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
