Stanton battles Midland TLCA, Jim Ned

STANTON – Stanton’s freshmen teams were in action against Midland TLCA and Jim Ned earlier this month.

The ninth grade girls team crushed Midland 35-17 on Jan. 7.

The Buffs started slow scoring only five points in the first quarter. But a 22-point explosion over the next two periods already gave Stanton enough points to win.

The Lady Buffs added another eight point in the final quarter for the victory.

Raze led Stanton in scoring with seven points and Hensley added six.

Day also score six points for the Lady Buffs while Keeton, Juarez, and Rayos finished with four points each.

Clanton and Melendez ended the night with two points each.

A week later on Jan. 14, Jim Ned bested the Buffaloes 38-7.

Juarez was high point for Stanton with six and Raze rounded out the books with two points.

The ninth grade boys also played Jim Ned on Jan. 14, and they also struggled stopping the Indian’s offense.

Jim Ned took a 22-14 lead at halftime and eventually won 45-22.

Andler, Armendarez, and Hinojosa scored four points each for Stanton and Galaviz, Tavarez, and Villa tossed in three points each.

Stanton will travel to Colorado City on Jan. 24 and will then host Merkel on Jan. 28.
