GRADY – A tough loss to Borden County and an impressive surge to beat Garden City gives Grady a 1-1 record during the first round of district action.

On Jan. 17, the Wildcats hit the road and headed east to battle the Coyotes of Borden County.

Borden County’s offense was on point that night taking an impressive 45-27 halftime lead.

Second half action was much closer and Grady chipped into the lead but Borden County was still able to win 70-57.

“We battled the No. 4 team in the state and I was very proud of our effort on both ends of the floor,” said Grady coach Chris Short. “We had about 2-3 minutes in the second quarter that we never recovered from.”

Brendan Pelletier led the Wildcats with a season high 25 points. Jackson Welch tossed in 22 points and Gunnar Rivas and Logan Aaron added seven and three points respectively.

Grady was back in action on Jan. 21 with a home contest against Garden City.

The team teams traded blows for three quarters and it was Grady that took the slim 33-27 lead.

But in an explosive fourth quarter, Grady slammed Garden City on both sides of the court with a 28-1 performance to run way with a 61-28 victory.

“This was a huge win for us. This game was very close for three quarters but our huge fourth quarter on both ends of the floor allowed us to outscore Garden City 28-1,” stated Short. “All seven varsity players contributed on both ends of the floor. We have another big game coming up against Klondike.”

Pelletier led all scorers with a game high 24 points. Welch finished with 17 points while Rivas, Franki Jimenez and Cooper Sims added five, three, and two points respectively.
