STANTON - Jerene Oleta Darden Baker, 68 of Stanton, died on Dec. 26, 2017. She was surrounded by family in her home after a courageous fight with cancer. She was the beloved wife of her childhood best friend and sweetheart, Sammy Baker of Haskell. She was born Jan. 2, 1949, in Haskell, and was the daughter of the late Henry and Ordria Darden. She graduated Haskell High School in 1967 and then graduated nursing school in Stamford. She and Sammy Baker were united in marriage on Nov. 23, 1968, in Haskell. Together with her husband, they started a business in Stanton. She is survived by her husband, Sammy Baker of Stanton; two children, Brian Baker and wife Lesley of Stanton, Karrie Mitchell and husband John of Stanton; six grandchildren, Bailey Beard, Kelby Baker, Cory Yater, Morgan Latham, Alyssa Yater and Madeline Baker; and one great grandchild, George Truett Beard IV. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Joan Meier. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Dec. 29, at God Loves You Ministries with Rev. David Johnson officiating, 11 Avenue E, Haskell, under the direction of Haskell Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Willow Cemetery, Haskell. Condolences may be made online at
