Junior varsity Buffaloes almost sweep weekly competition

STANTON – Stanton’s two junior varsity teams were one point away from a perfect week but had to settle for three victories out of four games.

The junior varsity girls first game was a stunning 48-0 shellacking of Odessa Compass.

Ariana Ramos finished with a game high 11 points and Gabby Gallegos and April Villa added eight points each.

Hadlee Stalvey and Kaycee Jefferson scored six points each and Bailee Fischer pitched in with four.

Alyssa Almaguer and Sara Hensley tossed in two points each and Meghan Clanton rounded out the books with one point.

Next on the schedule was Crane and while the Golden Cranes did manage to score in double figures, the Lady Buffs still crushed their competition 42-17.

Ramos again led Stanton in scoring with 14 points and Fischer added nine.

Hensley had a good game with eight points followed by Stalvey with four, Gallegos three, Villa two, and Almaguer two.

For the junior varsity boys, Odessa Compass spoiled the sweep but not without some excitement.

Compass took a 22-11 halftime lead and Stanton chipped away in the third quarter to trail 31-23.

A late Stanton rally made compass sweat but Odessa managed to hold on for the 39-38 win.

Jimmy Anderson and Tyler Haas led the Buffs in scoring with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Ethan Armendarez finished the night with six points and Marcus Ramirez had three.

Booth, Luis Alvizo, and Trandon Edmunson scored two points each.

The Buffaloes rebounded nicely a few days later against Crane.

The junior varsity Buffs took a minimal 22-19 halftime lead before erupting for 19 points in the third quarter and cruising to a 54-43 victory.

Haas was unstoppable with a game high 18 points and Armendarez added eight.

Alvizo and Ramirez dropped in six points each and Edmunson and Galindo added four points apiece.

Booth and Hancock chipped in three points each and Anderson wrapped up the scoring with two points.

Both groups will be in Coahoma on Friday with the girls starting at 7:30 p.m. and the boys tipping off at 6 p.m.
