STANTON – The Stanton Buffaloes were full speed ahead last week picking up two big district wins over Odessa and Sonora. But come Friday Stanton had run out of track and lost to Crane.
On Jan. 15, Odessa Compass jumped out to a early 11-7 lead but Stanton answered the challenege with a 24-5 run to close out the first half up 31-16.
Stanton carried its momentum into the second half and rattled off another 46 points to crush Compass 71- 34.
Arturo Salinas was red hot from downtown making six three-pointers and finishing with a game high 18 points
Tyler Benedict and Alex Flores scored 12 points each while Migeul Moreno and Josh Hensley tossed in eight points apiece.
Eddie Wittenbarger chipped in with six points followed by Max Lopez with five, Nickoli Aguirre four, and Aiden Galaviz three.
On Jan. 19, Stanton’s sharp shooting continued with a 23-15 first half performance against Sonora.
The Buffaloes trampled the Broncos in the third quarter with a 21-5 run to clinch the eventual 50-29 victory.
Benedict was high point for Stanton with nine and Salinas and Flores added eight points each.
Hensley, Galaviz, Austin Hewtty, and Moreno tallied five points apiece while Whittenbarger and Aguirre totaled three and two point respectively.
Stanton’s hot hand was finally cooled off by Crane last Friday.
The Golden Cranes took an early 12-4 lead before Stanton close out the half with a little run to trail 17-13.
Crane took charge in the second half and ran away with the 45-28 win.
Benedict led Stanton with 12 points and Moreno had five.
Wittenbarger ended the game with four points while Hensley, Hewtty, and Flores had two points each and Salinas had one.
Next up for Stanton is a road game in Coahoma against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.
