Two more losses force Grady into must win scenario

GRADY – Grady’s varsity boys basketball team has dug themselves a large hole to climb out of after dropping district games to Sands and Klondike.

Last Friday, Grady wrapped up the first round of district competition with a tough loss to Sands.

The two teams were knotted at 12-12 at halftime and after a decent third quarter Grady was poised for victory. But Sands mounted a ferocious comeback outscoring Grady in the final minutes for a 30-29 victory.

“This was a tough loss. Our kids played as well as they have played all year,” stated Grady coach Chris Short. “Defensibly this was by far our best effort all year. Sands has a good ball club and we just came up a little short.”

Logan Aaron and Gunnar Rivas led Grady in scoring with 11 points each and Austin Aaron and Cooper Sims added six points and one point respectively.

On Tuesday, Grady battled a tough Klondike team. Again, the two teams were tied at halftime 23-23.

Klondike would take a one point lead after the third quarter and after forcing seven turnovers and nailing a couple late buckets would clinch the 43-38 victory.

Grady must now win all four of its remaining district games to qualify for a playoff spot.
