GRADY - Grady’s UIL State Congress competitors were originally scheduled to head to Austin last weekend but the Arctic Blast made the roads too treacherous for travel.

Not wanting to cancel the State event, UIL officials decided to switch to a virtual competition with each state qualifier competing from their respective high schools.

Grady’s Jessi Everett was a member of Preliminary Session Chamber A. She had a strong first day finishing the prelims in fourth.

Also competing in Preliminary Session Chamber A was Ashlynn Peugh.

Peugh also had a good initaial showing and ended the day in the middle of the pack in seventh.

Cooper Sims participated in Perliminary Session Chamber B. Sims was on top of his game and narrowly missed the top of the list as he finished the prelims in second place.

Congress will reconvene on Feb. 23 for the final session.
