Wildcats fight until bitter end

ACUFF - The fans were entertained for the full 32 minutes as the Class 1A area champion was in doubt until the final buzzer.

The Grady Wildcats battled Lorenzo in the Class 1A area championship Thursday at Roosevelt High School.

Lorenzo started the game with the hot hand from deep and went into halftime with the 32-22 advantage.

At the start of the third quarter Grady flipped the switch and began its comeback. The Wildcats outscored the Hornets 26-18 in the second half falling short by one bucket, 50-48.

Raina Short led Grady in scoring with 15 points and Sydney Gonzales added 12.

Delaney Saunders totaled nine points while Jessi Everett and Kenley Ivy had seven and five respectively.

“I’m very proud of the Lady Cats and their fight this season,” said Grady coach Jacinda Langen. “I’m going to miss my seniors Sage McAnally and Raina Short.”

Grady finished the season 14-12 and bi-district champions.

Lorenzo lost to Sands in the regional quarterfinals over the weekend.
