Huffman to serve as Acting Deputy Commissioner for Customs and Border Protection

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Acting Commissioner of CBP Troy Miller is pleased to announce that Chief Benjamine “Carry” Huffman will serve as Acting Deputy Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection for the foreseeable future.

Chief Huffman has been the Executive Assistant Commissioner, Enterprise Services since May 2019, where he has provided leadership and direction to seven functional offices which are responsible for supporting CBP operations and enabling mission execution: Accountability, Acquisition and Procurement, Facilities and Asset Management, Human Resources, Information Technology, Programming, Administrative Services, and Training.

Prior to becoming Executive Assistant Commissioner, Enterprise Services, he served as Chief of the Strategic Planning and Analysis Directorate at Border Patrol Headquarters. In that capacity, he led the strategic planning necessary to implement several Presidential priorities, including maintaining operational control of the southwest border and the implementation of a comprehensive border wall system. Chief Huffman joined the Senior Executive Service in January 2014 and was named Deputy Chief of the El Paso Sector, which encompasses more than 125,500 square miles in New Mexico and Texas.

A native of West Texas, Chief Huffman entered on duty with the U.S. Border Patrol on February 3, 1985 in Imperial Beach, CA and spent more than three decades serving in multiple roles across the Border Patrol, including Acting Director of the Special Operations Group, CBP’s global response team that consists of the Border Patrol Tactical (BORTAC) and Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) Units.

Chief Huffman holds a Master’s Degree in Homeland Security from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies, and an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from South Plains Junior College in Levelland.

He graduated from Odessa Permian in 1979 and lived and worked in Stanton from 1982 until he joined BP. His family, grandparents, and parents, were from Stanton.
