Wildcat basketball looking good early

GRADY - It was a good week for Wildcat basketball with multiple teams earning victories over some stiff competition.

The Grady varsity Lady Cats picked up two wins this past week improving to 3-1 heading into Thanksgiving Break.

The first win was an impressive 54-33 drumming of Rankin.

Scorers for Grady: Tatum North 3, Raegan Dennis 7, Emma Parker 6, Jessi Everett 18, Samantha Griffin 8, Delaney Saunders 10, Mia Najera 2 Then on Friday Grady bounced O’Donnell 38-30.

Grady’s junior varsity Lady Cats struggled this past week losing to Westbrook 29-9 and theb falling to O’Donnell 41-18.

I love the effort that they are putting out.”

Grady’s junior varsity boys took and early lead over O’Donnell and held on late for a 31-25 victory.

“We got out to a great start but had a slow rest of the game,” said coach Brett Glzae. “We didn’t shoot the ball well from outside but found a way to make the gritty plays when we needed too.”

Grady will be back in action after Thanksgiving against Coahoma.

Last up for Grady last week was the varsity Wildcats.

Grady started slowed against O’Donnell but managed to finish the first quarter down by just one point.

After hitting a couple three balls in the second quarter Grady found itself up 23-20 at halftime.

The Wildcats stretched their lead 39-31 after the third quarter thanks to the brilliant play of Chapman Sims who scored nine points in the frame.

Grady would pound the final nail in the coffin with some good defense holding the Eagles to their worst quarter while putting up another double digit quarter for a 49-36 victory.

Sims led the Wildcats with 18 points and Austin Aaron added 13 points.

Logan Aaron and Colt Carson tossed in eight points each while Quint Harrell had two points.

Grady hit five threepointers for the game (A. Aaron 3, L. Aaron 1, Sims 1) and was 4 of 9 from the charity stripe.

Next on the schedule is a trip to Coahoma on Nov. 29.
