Stanton powerlifters prepare for regional competition next weekend

STANTON – Stanton High School hosted the final regional powerlifting qualifier last Saturday. Four Buffaloes took first place with massive lifts. Christian Tavarez placed first in the 132 lb. class with a total of 920 while Tyler Waggoner took first in the 165 lb. class with a total of 1250.

WELLMAN – The Grady Wildcats pieced together four outstanding quarter of basketball Tuesday night at Wellman-Union High School to beat Morton 6142 and claim the Bi-District Championship.

- The Grady Lady Cats season came to an end Thursday in the Area round of the playoffs against Borden County at Lamesa High School. A bad second quarter proved to be the difference in the game. While the Lady Cats battled back in the second half, it wouldn’t be engouh.

Lady Buffs qualify six for regional lifting meet

– Stanton High School hosted a Powerlifting meet last week giving the Lady Buffs one last chance to qualify for the Regional Meet. Brittyn Carson won the 114 weight class with her three lift total of 620 lbs. Emerie Barnes won her weight class of 148 lbs lifting a total of 635 lbs.

Garden City thumps Eden, next up is Rankin

SAN ANGELO – No. 7 Garden City was unstoppable Tuesday night during the Bi-District playoff game against Eden at Lake View High School in San Angelo. The Bearkats had a phenomenal first quarter scoring 30 points, more than Eden scored the entire game.

– The Grady Lady Wildcats took control of the game early and held on to defeat Anton in the Class A Bi-District round Monday night at Lubbock Trinity. Grady jumped out to an 8-0 lead early in the first quarter, but Anton answered with seven straight points to cut into the lead.

Bearkats are peaking at the perfect time

– No. 7 Garden City knocked off Robert Lee and Veribest to improve to 8-2 in district play and finish second in the standings. Robert Lee wasn’t much of a challenge for the talented Bearkats. After just the first eight minutes Garden City had a 23-3 lead and by halftime the lead ballooned to 40-6.
Stanton trailed Lamesa by 16 points at halftime of the Class AAA Bi-District game in Odessa. The Lady Buffs rallied back to within three points but ran out of time and lost 3128. Madeleine Mathes led all scorers with 16 points.
