Thomas Edward Angel

HOUSTON - It was mar. 30, 2026, that Tom passed peacefully with Lesa, Sheri and Bryan by his side. His body was willed to science via baylor College of Medicine. There is no service planned at this time.

Thank you to all off his friends and family who loved him.

All of you who knew Tom will not be surprised to learn that he wrote hos own obituary.Tom’s words…… Thomas Edward Angel passed into the sunset of his life. Born April 30th, 1935 to Jesse Earl Angel and Obera Hazlewood Angel of the Courtney Community, Martin County, Texas.

The Angels loved farm life and the opportunity to learn from it.

Music was all around as Tom took lessons beginning at age 10 on the mandolin and piano.

Tom finished 10 years of school at Courtney and completed grades 11 and 12 at Stanton. After graduation, Tom worked in Midland County for Fluor Corporation of Los Angeles as a payroll clerk. Fluor built compressor stations at Sprayberry, Midkiff and Pembrook.

After the oil fields, he enjoyed working at the Midland air terminal for Pioneer Airlines and attended Odessa College.

Tom dated Linda Bess Bryan for several years until she graduated from Stanton High School. They married August 10, 1956 and raised two children, Lesa Bess and Bryan Thomas.

A grand opportunity came in November of 1959 when Tom began working for Cap Rock Electric CO-OP as a bookkeeper for Wes-Tex Telephone and Cap Rock Refrigeration CO-OPS. After Wes-Tex built a new facility nearby and moved from the current building, Cap-Rock hired him back as accountant with continued benefits. In 1990, Cap-Rock offered early leave to employees and Tom was the first to accept and retire with a lump sum settlement and insurance benefits.

Tom served as chairman of the Panhandle Electric Accounting Group and two years as President of the Texas Electric Accounts Association.

Tom had a lifetime of activities in music where he played piano and organ for the first United Methodist Church of Stanton. He enjoyed teaching private piano lessons as well. Over the years, Tom entertained at the piano for birthday parties, anniversaries and at Chamber of Commerce banquets.

Tom was active in 4H club leadership for several years. He served as president of Stanton Lyons club and President of Martin County Cancer Society. He was an active Chamber of Commerce member and director for a number of years. He also served as a director of Martin County historical museum. Another credit was chairman of downtown beautification where flowers were placed in planters just off of the streets. Tom served as secretary and treasurer of the Lions club for over 10 years. He proudly served as district secretary of Lions International under District Governor Russell McMeans from 1981–1982.

After relocating to Dallas following retirement, Tom was fortunate to get temporary assignments with companies such as Mobil Oil and Ernst & Young, which were all downtown. He caught the dart bus from home to downtown and enjoyed an additional work career. In 1995 Tom studied for home healthcare and received his state certification and was employed by Baylor Medical Hospital for two years. During this time, he also studied life and health insurance sales. In 1997 Tom received his Texas life and health licenses and set out on another venture.

In 2016, Tom, Linda and Bryan moved to Houston to be closer to Lesa and Sheri. he enjoyed getting to know neighbors, playing bingo, growing plants and living a full life.

Tom is preceded in death by his wife linda Bess, his parents and a sister Melrae Kelso.

Survivors include his son Bryan Thomas Angel; daughter Lesa Bess Angel; daughter in law Sheri Lynn Pettit; sisters LaRue Pierce and Zanna Traweek (Marc). Also, many nieces and nephews. He loved them all dearly.
