LUBBOCK - 2019 was a history making season for the 13-2 Lubbock Cooper Pirates football team. Kyler Jordan and Kelan Jordan are shown above holding the Region 1 Class 5A-Division II regional championship trophy.
Being the regional champions, the Pirates advanced to the State Semi-Finals for the first time in school history. The Pirates were defeated 28 - 21 by the perennial state power Aledo Bearcats, who went on to win a record ninth state title the following week. The 13 wins for the 2019 Pirate team tied the school record set by the 2018 13-1 team.
Kyler, a sophomore defensive end/linebacker, was honored as the District 3-5A Defensive Most Valuable Player. Kelan, a senior wide receiver, was selected Second Team All District Wide Receiver and was also selected 5A First Team Academic All State.
Kelan and Kyler are the sons of Dustin and Laura (Herm) Jordan of Lubbock and the grandsons of Steve and Teresa Herm of Stanton and Loyd and Leslie Jordan of Meadow.
