SANDS – Grady’s two junior high boy’s games against Sands on Jan. 20 were both narrow losses.
The seventh grade Wildcats had a commanding 7-2 lead at halftime, but an outstanding quarter by Sands allowed the Mustangs to take a 10-9 advantage after the third quarter.
The final few minutes were electric but Sands held on for the 14-13 victory.
“This was another great battle with Sands,” commented Grady coach Chris Short.
Scoring for Grady were Gunner Cherry four points, Hunter Blaylock four points, Dalton Saunders two points, Joe Monarres two points, Aaron Cates one point.
In the eighth grade contest between Grady and Sands, it was the Mustangs taking the early 4-0 lead and holding on the entire game for a 29-25 victory.
“This was a tough game for us again against Sand,” stated Short. “This game was close the whole way. I was proud of the effort on both ends of floor. “
Kody Cates led the Wildcats in scoring with 10 points and Hunter McAnally added seven points. Chapman Sims chipped in with three points followed by Hagan O’Donnell and Matejo DeAnda with two points each and Kellen Young had one point.
