PERMIAN BASIN - Applications are now being accepted for the annual Panhandle Press Association Scholarship for college students and graduating high school seniors.
The Panhandle Press Association annually awards a scholarship to a graduating high school senior and a current college student from a community with a member newspaper. The PPA awards $500 (payable $250 per semester) and that amount is matched by the Texas Press Association for a total award of $1,000.
College students must live in or be from a county served by a Panhandle Press Association member newspaper.
Applicants must have completed at least 24 hours of college credit and must be majoring in a Mass Communications field of study with a demonstrated interest in Print Journalism or Advertising.
Recipients must be enrolled in at least three hours of college or university journalism courses each semester that the scholarship is awarded. Aside from filling out the application, applicants must submit a 250 word essay on the subject, “My Future and Career Plans in Community Journalism.”
For students graduating from high school this spring, they must also live in a county served by a PPA member newspaper, fill out the high school senior application and submit the essay.
