Delfina Cortez

BIG SPRING - Delfina Cortez, 76 of Leander and formerly of Big Spring, died Jan. 31, 2021. Rosary was Feb. 4, at and funeral services were Feb. 5, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment followed at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

She was born June 5, 1944, in Lamesa. She married Alfonso Cortez, Jr. and he preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 2018.

She was a longtime resident of Lenorah where she raised her six children and even a few of their friends. Anyone who walked in her home was family. She was a fixture at Grady ISD, helping with every school function and attending every sporting event her kids were involved in. She was active with the Boys Scouts and served as a Den Mother. She took pride in all that her kids and later, grandkids did. In her eyes, we were all superstars. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. And she worked for a short time for the Big Spring school district. She enjoyed gardening, rock collecting, taking care of her doggies, and spending time with her family. She had the sweetest soul, a heart of gold and strength to overcome and accomplish anything she set her mind to. She was simply amazing - wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She is survived by her a son, Alfonso Cortez, III and wife Margrete of Big Spring; daughters, Mary Cortez of Coahoma, Linda Stacy and husband Robert of Big Spring, and Chris Cortez and husband J.R. Ramirez of Leander; sons, Baldomar Cortez and wife Gloria of Coahoma and Gilbert Cortez and wife Barbara of Snyder; 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren; five brothers and six sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jose Cruz and 1 sister Martina Valle.

Pallbearers will be David Rodriquez, T.J. White, Paul A. Cortez, David Xavier Rodriquez, Brandyn Cortez and Tommy White.
