Betty Lynn Dillard

FORT WORTH - Betty Lynn Dillard, 69 of Fort Worth died Mar. 23 , 2021, in a Fort Worth hospital following a brief illness.

She was born Mar. 15, 1952, to Allan and Laura Margaret Dillard in Fort Worth. She attended school in Fort Worth and graduated from Eastern Hills High School in 1970. She attended Baylor University receiving a degree in Journalism and received multiple master’s degrees from Sul Ross State University.

She was a historian and guest curator for the Museum of the Big Bend in Alpine from 1993 to 2003. She also worked in journalism for a number of years for the Jeff Davis County Mountain Dispatch in Fort Davis, The Fort Worth Business Press and later for The Metro Report, also of Fort Worth.

She was an avid historian and genealogist, a hobby she shared with her mother, Laura Margaret. She was a lifelong Texas Rangers and Baylor Bears fan and enjoyed traveling throughout her adult life after studying abroad in Spain in the 1970s.

She was preceded in death by her father, Allan; her mother, Laura Margaret; and her brother, Bob.

Betty is survived by her brother, Stephen Dillard (Cathie) of Houston; her sister-in-law, Christi Dillard of Fort Davis, niece, Shawn Bergfeld (Andy) of Tyler; nephew, Lucas Dillard (Melissa) of Lubbock, nephew, Brannon Dillard (Kristin) of Houston; nephew, Tate Dillard of Lubbock, and 12 great nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held for Betty in the Summer of 2021 at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
