Delphine Jane Barthel was born Jan. 6, 1939, in the family farm house at Sparenberg. She died on Jan. 2, 2021.
The first born of six children to Bill and Lydia Richter. She was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sparenberg, starting her lifelong service to her Lord Jesus, attending the Lutheran Parochial School, as a teenager, a faithful member of Walther League Youth, Sunday School, choir, and teacher. She played the organ for services from teenager to adulthood. She was a graduate of Ackerly High School where she was a star of the basketball team and elected Most Beautiful by her classmates. She taught Sunday School in Amarillo, and served as State Secretary to Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML.)
She was a loving wife to Bill Schneider for 32 years and to Bruce Barthel for 28 years. She will be forever remembered as a loving Mom to Steve, Tim, and Mark who describe her as classy and creative, always keeping a clean and well decorated home, a fantastic cook, baker, seamstress, amazed the boys with how quickly she could plan, prepare , and clean up after a meal, always feeding her family first as she always ate last, a wizard at recovering furniture, crafts and banners for her church and spent many days canning vegetables to feed her family, a value she learned growing up on a farm during drought time.
As she was known to her grandchildren, Mimi, loved spending time with them, as they did with her, always making them feel special, one way making them all personal Christmas stockings and sewing beautiful dresses for the girls. She is survived by her son Steve of Denton; granddaughter Lauren and husband Joey and great-grandson Gus of Midland; grandson Matt and wife Brittany and great-granddaughter Amelia of Denton; son Tim and wife Sonja of Broken Arrow, OK; grandson Micah of Tulsa, OK; granddaughter Alyssa of Oklahoma City, OK; sn Mark and wife Karen of Owasso, OK; grandson Colten of Stillwater, OK; granddaughter Kaitlyn and husband Bryan, and great-granddaughter Ihla of Haslet; sister Jenny and husband Bill of Midland; sister-in-law Sheryl of Tyler; Donnie of Lamesa, Cynthia of Ackerly, and Lonnie of Colorado City, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Alton.
Memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Association and Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Apr. 24, at 11am at Grace Lutheran Church. 1002 N 11th St. in Lamesa.
