Leilah Hernandez Act almost official

AUSTIN - A statewide active shooter alert system is almost official.

State Representative Brooks Landgraf’s House Bill 103, which would create the Texas Active Shooter Alert System, passed unanimously out of the Texas Senate on Wednesday.

It now heads to the desk of Governor Greg Abbott for his signature.

Rep. Landgraf crafted the Leilah Hernandez Act after working with his constituents and family members of the victims of the August 31 mass shooting in Odessa and Midland. Leilah, 15, was the youngest victim killed in the shooting. Her mother, Joanna Leyva, testified in support of the bill at the Texas Capitol.

HB 103 will require the Texas Department of Public Safety to develop and implement the Active Shooter Alert System.
