Jerry Otis Bartley

LUBBOCK - The family of Jerry Otis Bartley will celebrate his life of 82 years at 1 p.m. on July 10, 2021, at The Springs Fellowship (6109 114th St, Lubbock).

He died on April 30, 2021.

He was born July 30, 1938 to Newman and Winnie Bartley on a farm in Lynn County. He graduated from Wilson High School and went to Texas Tech. He later entered the National Guard Army for a few years. He came back to Texas to be one of the best band directors in Texas. He taught for more than 50 years as a band director. He taught in Cameron, Angleton, New Deal, Midland, Olton, Lamesa, Lubbock, Hale Center, Abernathy, Stanton, Petersburg, and Dalhart. He also led the Texas Tech Band Camp for many years.

He married Anita Zweig and had two children, Shanna and Ted. He was a great and loving grandfather to his five granddaughters, Emma, Jenna, Morgan, Kezia, and Zoe.

He was a fun loving person and was a great influence to many of his former students. His legacy, leadership, musicianship, and fun-loving comedy were unsurpassed and unforgettable.
