Lois C. Eggleston

MIDLAND - Lois C. Eggleston, 91, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving husband of 28 years, David, and caretaker, Silvia Longoria, on July 26, 2021, in Midland. She was born on Jan. 7, 1930, in Stanton, to Senobio and Tomasa Cardenas. She was the eldest of eight sisters.

She was a retired ESL (English as a Second Language) Teacher, who taught classes at both Odessa and later Midland, Colleges. She was a passionate teacher who loved her students and guided them well. She was constantly saving pictures, articles, and such, to use as teaching aids for her students, many of whom went on to get their GEDs and some, their college degrees. She never met a stranger and was best known for her big, beautiful smile and cheerful disposition. She loved to dance. If there was music at any gathering, she and David were bound to be dancing nearby. She was an avid cyclist, joining David on many long-distance bicycle rides in Texas and across the country. To the admiration of many younger cyclists, she and David once completed the Hotter'n Hell Hundred Endurance Ride, every August in Wichita Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Connie Rodriguez Weaver and Mary Ramos, her first husband Petronilo Castellon, son Desi Castellon, daughter Luz Marie Rios, and grandson Michael Castellon Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband David Eggleston; daughter Juanita (Octavio) Molinar of Alaska; son Michael (Melissa) Castellon of San Antonio; sisters Janie Ramos, Abby Vasquez, Eva Sloan, Elena (Jesse) Chavez, all of Odessa, and Corina (Raul) Gonzales of Los Angeles, CA; caregiver Silvia (Ruben) Longoria of El Paso; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, or a charity of choice.
