SAN ANTONIO - Hubert "Pops" Walter Lange, 88 of San Antonio, died Jan. 25, 2022.
He was born June 20, 1933, to Robert and Hildegarde Lange in Olfen. He was the baby of nine children. He enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean War. He came back and attended Texas Tech University where he received a Mechanical Engineering Degree. While attending Texas Tech, he met the love of his life, Mary Juanita Hayden. After a brief courtship, they were married Jan 28, 1961. Upon graduation, he and Nita moved to San Antonio, where he took a job at Kelly Air Force Base. He retired after 30 years of service. He continued to stay busy by getting involved in his community where he served as a Leon Valley City Councilman. He was also very involved with St. Luke's Catholic Church and up until the end, St Vincent De Paul Society. He will always be remembered as a loving family man.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nita who passed just before Christmas in 2021.
He is survived by son Phillip M. Lange(wife: Bonnett) of Hondo, daughter Cecilia A. Schwartz(Husband: James) of Garden City, daughter Christine E. Smyers of San Antonio, his grandchildren: Makenna, Marissa, and Gage Lange: Colton and Jake Schwartz and Morgan Ann Martin: Hannah and Hayden Smyers: great grandchildren Jaden L Schwartz, Julianne G Schwartz, Jenson J Schwartz, and Clark W Schwartz, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Feb. 12, St Luke's Catholic Church in San Antonio, . There will be a rosery at 1:30 PM followed by the funeral mass at 2 pm.
The internment will take place on Feb 14, at Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio at 10 am.
