AUSTIN - Grady High School is set to perform their award winning One-Act-Play, Badger, today in Austin.
Badger is set in 1944, and is a true story of five young women take newly-available jobs at one of the largest munitions factories in the United States: the Badger Ordnance Works. Facing dangerous work with highly flammable powder as well as insidious sexism, the women form an unlikely friendship through joy and heartbreak. A vibrant ensemble brings the factory to life as each of the women confronts not only the challenges of entering the workforce in the darkest days of World War II, but also who she is and what she truly values. Unforgettable human stories make the era immediate in this captivating ensemble drama.
“Just bought my ticket for the State final one act play competition here in Austin. For the fist time in my career a school has advanced to the state finals with one of my shows. (I must’ve had 100 plays in one act play competition over the years.” stated playwright Don Zolidis
“If your not familiar with Texas OAP, it’s the largest one-act-play competition in the world, with more than 1100 schools competing every year. It lasts for weeks and weeks, and it’s some of the best damn theater you will ever see. I’ve routinely been blown away by what I’ve seen - by the time schools make it to the finals they are doing thrilling, inspirational work.” said Zolidis. “I can’t wait to see Grady High School perform my play Badger - (and how cool that I get to foist Wisconsin history on Texans!)
Grady will be the third performance of Session 1, with the session starting at 3 p.m.
