FLOWER MOUND - Belle J Latimer, 91 of Flower Mound, died peacefully on May 23, 2022 at her home surrounded by her closest family. Services were June 2, at Mulkey Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville with her close friend Pastor Ken Rogers officiating.
Mrs. Latimer was born on Jan. 5, 1931, in Stanton to Barry Samuel (Jack) Jones and Buna Crudup Jones. After graduating from Stanton High School in 1948, she attended West Texas State University to pursue her passion for education. She received her bachelor's degree of English in 1951 and her Master of Education in 1955. She married Murrell Latimer in 1949 while in college.
They lived a long, prosperous, and happy marriage for over 70 years. They loved traveling and visited all 50 US states along with numerous international destinations. She selflessly cared for Murrell in his last years allowing him to stay at home and pass while they were holding hands back in June of 2021.
She lived in Amarillo almost 40 years where she taught at River Road School and Horace Mann Junior High. She was an eighth grade counselor and later served as a visiting counselor for 15 schools in the AISD. At 36, she left her cherished career at AISD to raise her only son, Scott Latimer.
After retirement, her love of teaching carried over to church where she taught Sunday School, youth groups, and directed Vacation Bible School. She started church libraries at Washington Avenue Christian Church and Paramount Terrace Christian Church. She was a contributing member of Lewisville Bible Church for over 20 years.
She was a dedicated Christian who was loved by everyone, read the bible daily, and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and lived to watch each game with a passion, even after the last 26 disappointing seasons.
She is survived by her only son Scott Latimer and his wife Kim; grandson Preston, grandson Ryan and his wife Shannon and great grandson Parker, along with numerous special nieces and nephews.
