LAMESA - Ava Jo (Spencer) Crow was born June 17, 1929, in Klondike Community, Dawson County, to John Floyd Spencer and Loreta (Strange) Spencer. She was an only child helping her parents run the family farm during the summers. In her youth, she entered the Lord's Kingdom through baptism and attended the First Christian Church in Lamesa. She graduated at age 15 from Klondike High School, class of 1945. She attended West Texas State College, Canyon, majoring in Art.
She married Paul Deroyce Crow on Nov. 24, 1952, in Lamesa. She was blessed with two children Charlotte Crow and Royce Evan Crow. She truly could do it all. As a farmer's wife she learned to make a little go a long way. Jo perfected her cooking, baking, making jams, pickles and jellies. Her love for sewing, quilting, embroidery, crocheting, and designing turned into a business she ran with Paul and family members. She also co-owned several businesses with Paul putting her artistic skills to use while possessing Lamesa Floral Company. Her hobby consisted of being a helpmate to Paul. Everything she did put her talents to work supporting their joint business endeavors.
Paul served as pastor to several churches throughout west Texas and south plains area. She was always by his side supporting the missions of each church. Although soft spoken she was fearless and tireless working in whatever capacity she was called to fulfill.
In the late afternoon, June 19, 2022, at 6:09, she died after 93 years and two days.
She is survived by daughter Charlotte Crow Owen and son-in-law Jerry Owen of Lubbock; her son, Royce Evan Crow and daghter-in-law Jane Crow of Copperas Cove; stepgrandson Duane Wilson and wife Elly Metcalf Wilson and children Jimmy Wilson and Autumn Wilson all of Leakey; step-granddaughter Jamie Wilson Ferrell and spouse David Ferrell of Baltimore, MD; grandsons Jeremiah Daniel Crow, Bryce Evan Crow, Daniel Trevor Owen, activeduty Air Force. Daniel is married to Stephanie Owen, and they have three children: Savannah Renee, Brayden Maxwell and Macie Adelyn. Grandson Michael Alan Owen currently of Lubbock, with daughter Ava Michael and William Parker. Step-grandson Jeremy Paul Owen has two children Wesley Taylor and Addyson Grace of Keller.
Graveside services will be 10am, June 24, at Dawson County Cemetery in Lamesa.
