Gordon Campbell Stone

FORT WORTH - Gordon Campbell Stone, 85, died at home in Fort Worth on July 28, 2022, surrounded by family.

Celebration of Life will be at 2:30 p.m., Aug. 6, in Greenwood Chapel, Fort Worth, with family receiving friends at a reception immediately following.

He was born Nov. 1, 1936, to Gordon (Dogie) and Inez Stone in Stanton. Raised on a cattle and cotton ranch, he graduated valedictorian from Stanton High School in 1955. He attended SMU earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and received master's and doctorate degrees in structural and aeronautical engineering from OSU.

He had a 40-year career at General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, contributing to the aircraft designs of the F-111, F-16, and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. He later consulted for Lockheed Martin on its joint fighter program with the Republic of South Korea.

He was a member and past president of Golden K Kiwanis Club and served as Kiwanis Lt. Governor for Texas and Oklahoma. He was a guest lecturer and member of the Tarrant County Historical Society. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, Citizens on Patrol (Code Blue), Crown of Thorns, International Wine and Food Society, Dinner Dance Club, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Assn, Arlington Heights United Methodist Church, and Ridglea Country Club.

He enjoyed world travel, visiting six of the seven continents and loved piloting his own aircraft. WWII and similar items of history were his favorite conversational subjects. Gordon was also passionate about promoting youth scholarship and education funding and sustaining the annual Martha Stone Memorial Scholarship at Monnig Middle School.

Gordon loved his family and was blessed with two happy marriages: to Martha Fuqua Stone for 34 years and to Jacque Buechley Stone for the past 23 years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha; and his parents.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Jacque; sister, Carolyn Stone of Stanton; four children and spouses: Mary Kathryn Hurst and husband, Allen of Tyler, Wilson Stone and wife, Barclay of Atlanta, GA., Neil Stone of Houston and Leigh Anne Kotarski and husband, Jon of Fort Worth; two stepdaughters, Kim Saxon and husband, John Davis of Tucson, AZ., and Paige Buechley of Austin.

He was also known as beloved "Grandaddy Gordon" to 10 grandchildren: Matthew Hurst and wife, Mariah, Stuart Hurst and wife, Brooke, Hailey Wigington and husband, Jonathan, Campbell Stone, Caroline Stone, Grace Stone, Ashlyn Kotarski, Jon Robert Kotarski Jr., Walker Stone and Landon Stone.
