STANTON - Rufus Charles Tom, 85 of Stanton, died Jan. 29, 2023, at his residence. The family received friends Feb. 1, at Gilbreath Funeral Home. Rosary service was at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 am Feb. 2, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with interment following at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 22, 1937, in Midland, to parents Edmund Tom and Louise Deavenport Tom. He attended Tarleton Junior College. He married Edwenna Shain Jan. 24, 1964, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a lifelong resident of Stanton and was a local farmer and rancher. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Edwenna; his daughters Raegan Cox, Charlesa (Heath) Sims, Leann (Russell) Jonas, Pam (Brad) Grable, and Stacie (Michael) Palmer; his grandchildren Seth (Kelsey) Sims, Shance (Ashtin) Sims, Pallyn Grable, Payge Grable, Macey Jonas, Mason Jonas, Marshal Jonas, Mathew Jonas, Trent Cox, Evan Cox, Justin (Darcy) Cox, Courtney (Travis) Lucas, Cade Palmer, and Chase Palmer as well as his great grandchildren Charlie Jo Sims, Parker Sims, Gracie Jonas, Jeydon Cox, Jersey Cox, and Harper Lucas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Leslie Jean Keisling and her husband Fate, and a son-in-law Mike Cox.
Pallbearers will be Seth Sims, Shance Sims, Mason Jonas, Marshal Jonas, Mathew Jonas, Trent Cox and Evan Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be Cade Palmer, Chase Palmer, Tommy Newman, Corky Blocker, Bud Glaspie, Heath Sims, Russell Jonas, Brad Grable and Michael Palmer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to your favorite charity.
