- Stanton ISD students Tremaine, Leonard and Josiah Smith have been bringing their talents on the track to East Texas. The brothers, who will enter eighth, sixth and third grade this school year, competed in the Games of Texas state meet in College Station on July 31 and Aug 1.

- The Garden City Bearkats took the field Monday for the first football practices of the new season.A total of 17 players showed up for the first week of practices with a couple more expected to come out once the school year begins. Seven of those are seniors.

At the end of the week, both squads worked as one team and competed in the large squad division. The ladies were named the Cheer Performance Champions and placed second in the Dance division and the GameDay division. Wendy the Wildcat was named the Camp Champion Mascot.
Garden City graduate Texas Brinkley wrapped up his high school basketball career with a spectacular performance at the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association All-Star basketball game last week. Brinkley was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player.
