JAYTON – No. 18 Garden City opened the season over the weekend with a huge victory over the Nazareth Swifts the Grid Iron Classic in Jayton on Saturday. The Bearkats defense came up big multiple times and the offense used big plays to stun the Swifts.

- Grady cross country teams traveled to Midland this past Saturday to run at the Tall City Invitational.Brynlee Madison was the only runner that finished in the Top 20. Madison finished17th out of a 170 runners with a time of 14:13.27. Emma Parker, 14:2542. Macie Stack, 15:0447.

– Grady football traveled to Ackerly last week for the final scrimmage of the pre-season against the Sands Mustangs and the Balmorhea Bears.Grady’s offense was really impressive in the first scrimmage but it was the defense that impressed the Grady coaches this week.

– Garden City was in Highland last Thursday for its second and final scrimmage of the 2024 pre-season.The scrimmage proved to be very beneficial to the Bearkat players as Highland would use some new defensive fronts that these young players hadn’t seen before.

- The Buffaloes looked much better during the second scrimmage of the pre-season against Lamesa.“We have a better understanding of schemes on both sides of the ball, and we were much better at not turning the ball over or putting ourselves in long yardage situations,” said coach Gary Griffin.

GRADY – It was a super-hot evening last Friday at M. W. Tunnel Field in Grady, but dozens of fans showed up to support the Wildcats in their first preseason scrimmage against Loraine.Based off the scrimmage, it appears the Wildcats will be a fun team to watch in 2024.
