Annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest Held at Stanton Elementary

Last week Stanton Elementary started their annual pumpkin contest in the library with Pre-K - 2nd grade students participating for the first round. There were a total of 102 pumpkins entered this year. First round winners are pictured below.

Water district announces 2023 scholarship recipients

MARTIN COUNTY - The Permian Basin Underground Water Conservation District is honored to announce to the surrounding communities their 2023 Scholarship Recipients. The topic for the essays this year was: “In a 1,000 word essay, discuss what you can do in your community to learn, encourage and teach others to conserve and protect our water.” The seniors who were eligible to apply and compete for the scholarships had to be students at one of the four schools in the PBUWCD’s district: Forsan, Grady, Sands and Stanton high schools.

Buffalo band moves to State round of Texas Honor Band Competition

- The Texas Music Educators Association has a Texas Honor Band Competition each year where bands submit audio files of their performances electronically for them to be judged. Region to Area Advancement, up to four bands per classification may advance from Region to Area.

Former Martin County couple, J.C. and Dorothy Newland Celebrate 75 Years

- J.C. and Dorothy Newland live in the retirement center of Lakewood Village in Fort Worth, Texas. They will be celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary on May 29, 2023. But they first met about 1944 when they were freshmen at Stanton High School, halfway between Midland and Big Spring, Texas. Dorothy grew up on a farm about three miles west of Stanton. J.C.’s parents purchased a farm about one mile north of Stanton on the same road as Dorothy’s farm.
