Glasscock County FFA Members

Glasscock County FFA Members had a big week as 47 students competed at the El Rancho District LDE Contest, and 33 of them advanced to area contests. There were 7 district champion teams, 4 district runner ups, 3 teams finishing in 3rd place. All first and second place teams will advance to area!

Martin County man of many titles, “Soda Jerk” passes away Nov. 11

- Adrian Lynn Lindsey, 99 of Stanton, passed away Monday, November 11, 2024 at his residence.Adrian Lynn Lindsey, aka, Bud, was born to parents Adam Linn Lindsey and Esther Irene Shannon Lindsey on October 1, 1925, in Ranger, Texas. The event apparently went unnoticed except for his parents.

Pumpkin Contest

Last week Stanton Elementary had a Book Character Pumpkin Contest in the library for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade with a total of 64 pumpkins. It was a very close race, but here are our winners. 1st Place - Irali Ramos -- Mrs. Vaughn's 4th grade class

My First Rifle

When I turned 8 years old my dad bought me my first rifle. It was a small 22 rifle, Winchester Model 67 A. It was a single shot and I hunted with it until after I graduated from high school.I took it to my first job the summer I graduated. I went to work for Solon Spence on a farm north of Artesia.

First Woman Hanged in Texas

Leading up to the 1998 execution of ax murderer Karla Faye Tucker, there were repeated references to the fact that a woman had not been put to death in Texas since Nov. 12, 1863. Her name was Chipita Rodriguez and this is her sad but true story.
