LUBBOCK - Olga LaGuen “Gwen” Sawyer, 82 of Lubbock, formerly of Stanton, died Feb. 14, 2021. Graveside service Feb. 22, at Evergreen Cemetery.
She was born in Lamesa, to parents Willie Womack and Effie (Rupe) Womack on July 16, 1938. She was a coordinator/ director of the Miss Martin County Pageant for 13 years, served on the Grief Committee working with families after they suffered a loss of a loved one, was a member of Martin County Museum Board, active in M.C. Centennial Celebrations and Events, was a chairman of Centennial Ball, and served on the Martin County Hospital Board; as well as, being active in the community in Midland. She enjoyed singing in the choir, painting with acrylics and watching March Madness Basketball. She loved her grandchildren and family with all of her heart.
She is survived by her daughter Shirilla Rutledge; son Dennis Sawyer and wife Kristi; sister Joanne Dennis; grandchildren Mason Rutledge, Haley Sawyer, and Zachary Sawyer.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Dennis Sawyer; brothers, J.H. Womack, Eddie Womack and Maurice Womack; sisters, Elva Peage, Faye Wallace and Lois Harred; and grandson, Douglas Rutledge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church or Martin County Historical Museum.
