ACKERLY - Joe Dean Hall, 80 of Ackerly, died July 10, 2021, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. Graveside service was July 13, at the Ackerly Cemetery in Ackerly with Reverend Ricky Carstensen of the First United Methodist Church of Big Spring officiating.
Joe Dean was born Nov. 16, 1940, in Loraine to George and Lena Hall. He married Sondra Tate on Nov. 14, 1998, in Cloudcroft, NM.
A lifelong farmer, he was a pillar of the community, serving Ackerly as longtime mayor, school board member, water commissioner and advocate for the City Fire Department. After retiring from farming, he worked in cotton classing at the USDA.
He loved his hometown of Ackerly. He was considered a town historian and was often called upon for information on the town. He knew no strangers and loved gatherings at his home. He was a John Wayne enthusiast and loved watching westerns. He always had a pocketful of candy for the kids... and himself. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife: Sondra Hall of Ackerly; four children: Jacqueline Higdon of Round Rock, Michelle Fuller and husband Brent of Lubbock, Jordan Hall and wife Shannon of Phoenix, AZ and Anna Wilson and husband Brent of Wylie; one stepson: Chad Brown and wife Natasha of Lubbock; and eight grandchildren: Jarad Higdon, Jessica Higdon, Bladen Fuller, Jaden Fuller, Jake Hall, Amelia Wilson, Hallie Wilson and Chelby Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Lela Faye Lankford.
Honorary pallbearers were be Brent Fuller, Brent Wilson, Jarad Higdon, Bladen Fuller, Joe Maholly and John Snell.
