Erene H. Sanchez

STANTON - Funeral mass for Erene H. Sanchez of Stanton, was Oct. 27, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Bishop Sis of the Diocese of San Angelo officiating and with Father Rodriguez assisting. Interment followed at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. A rosary vigil was Oct. 26, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the viewing also Oct. 26, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Born on Oct. 20, 1923, he lived all his life in Stanton. In Dec. of 1946, he married the love of his life Cruz Martinez Sanchez. Mr. Sanchez died Oct. 23, 2021 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones and finally joining his wife of 72 years in eternal rest.

e is survived by his daughter Rosario Sanchez of Stanton; sister Maria Sanchez of Midland; brothers Nick Sanchez of Stanton, Yisidro Sanchez and Basilio Sanchez of Midland; grandchildren Grace Gonzales of Odessa, Rebecca Lopez of Dallas, Jessica Sanchez of Plano, Lauren Thompson (Kevin) of Helena, Alabama, John-David Roblez of Lubbock, and greatgrandson Jacob Lopez of Chicago, IL.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Francisco and Maria Sanchez; son Jesus Sanchez; siblings Hipolito Sanchez, Casimiro Sanchez, Simon Sanchez, Emma Esparza, Francisco Sanchez, and Trinidad Salazar.

He served his country honorably in WWII oversees in Europe fighting with the 459th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion. He set sail on the Queen Mary from New York Harbor, landing in England in 1944. During his service in Europe, he landed at Utah Beach in Normandy on D-Day 1944, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and crossed the Rhine River during the Battle of Remagen. In addition to serving his country, he served his community as an Ordained Deacon at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stanton for 25 years.

He accepted his call to holy orders August of 1976 for the service of almighty God and his people in the Diocese of San Angelo.

Serving as pallbearers were John-David Roblez, Eric Sanchez, Tommy Esparza, Lupe Sanchez, Victor Esparza, and Steve Ramos.
