POST - Helen Jo Thomas (Ninny) died on Aug. 30, 2022, where she is once again able to do the things she loves. She was born Nov. 15, 1934 to Dew and Myrtle Davis in Snyder.
She married Harold Wayne Thomas on January 27, 1953 in Clovis, New Mexico.
Jo and Wayne made their home in Post, where they had four children: Syan, Tol, Tammye and Jendy.
From an early age she proved to have a servant’s heart! She spent her life caring for and serving the needs of other people. This came naturally to her since she was the seventh of nine children. There was always someone that needed her help be it siblings or parents. But her desire to serve others didn’t stop with family.
Her greatest joy came from feeding as many people as she could on a daily basis. And oh was she a wonderful cook! If she wasn’t cooking at home, she was cooking at the Snack Shack then later in life at Dairy Queen until her retirement.
Living at the corner of all the schools her kitchen was a guaranteed place for a meal or snack before, during or after school. Cinnamon rolls for breakfast and to give as gifts, Hot Dogs for football concession stand and Chili beans for after game meals were a few of her well know items.
Even though cooking was her greatest joy her service went beyond. Christmas was always an opportunity for her to give to others. She made sure anyone without family or without a gift would get a gift. But with that gift came a home cooked meal.
If there is a need to eat in Heaven, I am sure she is in the Kitchen!
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Wayne, of 68 years; Daughter Syan; Parents Dew and Myrtle Davis; three Brothers Grady, Charlie and Calvin Davis; four Sisters Dorothy Reep, Mary Nell Crawford, Wanda France and Claudine Ervin.
She is survived by son, Tol (Angie) Thomas of Andrews, two Daughters Tammye Griffin of Bruceville/Eddy and Jendy Thomas of Big Spring; Grandchildren Radley (Crystal) Nichols of San Angelo, T.J. (Jennifer) Thomas of Tahoka, Riley Holly of Lubbock, Amanda (Johnny) Hair of Post, Ryan (Sunnie) Holly of Andrews, Paul IV (Lea Ann) Hayes of Glen Rose, Byron (Samantha) Hayes of Stanton and Rachael (Blake) Grantham of Big Spring. 34 Great Grandchildren and five Great-Great Grandchildren. One Sister Lilly Blacklock of Lubbock, and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
This makes a house full which is what she loved most! Memorial Service will be Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. at Hudman Funeral Home. A private, family burial will be in Terrace Cemetery.
