James Clair Epley, Jr.

PUEBLO, CO - James Clair Epley, Jr (Jim), 71 of Pueblo, CO, died Sept. 23, 2022 after years of debilitating health issues. He went by many names, Jim, Jimmy, Big Jim, Jimbo, Ep and Grampy. He was loved by many, perhaps most notably, the SHS Class of ’69. He was born in Paris, on June 21, 1951, to Augustine Hough (Gussie) and James Clair Epley, Sr (Snooks).

In 1947, Snooks moved the family from Martin County to Valliant, OK where they owned and operated a ranch. Snooks declared that no child of his would be born in Oklahoma, so they drove 50 miles to Paris, to welcome their only son into the world.

He attended college at Sul Ross University and Texas A&M. After college he farmed and managed a chemical & feed store. He is most known for his gentle spirit and kind smile.

He is survived by his only child Courtney Poitevint and husband Harrison of Stanton; grandchildren Benjamin Crockett, Jordyn, Neeley and Claire Poitevint, and many special friends that are like family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gussie and Snooks Epley.
