BIG SPRING - Joe Don Lilly, 58, died on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 2022. Family visitation was Nov. 27, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services were Nov. 28, at Kelview Heights Baptist Church in Midland. He was born on June 29, 1964, in Big Spring, to Alton Donell Lilly and Janie Jeffcoat Lilly. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1982 and married the love of his life, Susan, on Aug. 15, 1987. They are owners of Permian Court Reporters of Midland, where he enjoyed many years as a legal video technician. His pride and joy were his boys and sweet daughter-in-love. He taught them to love the Lord, to serve Him, and to live a life of character that would 'shine for the world to see.'
Joe was met with an unfortunate turn in April of 2014 when an accident rendered him paraplegic. His family and friends were continually astonished as he continued to live his life to the fullest, with grace, determination, faithfulness and most of all, joy. He truly was the best patient. The number of nurses and doctors that he touched for eternity may never be known this side of heaven. He always wanted everyone to know the 'why' for his tenacity and sense of humor in the midst of devastating circumstances. He worshiped his Lord to his dying breath, and gave honor to Him through it all.
He is survived by his wife Susan Newcomer Lilly; son James Brandon and wife Sarah; son Timothy Martin Lilly; father Alton Donell Lilly and wife Geri; brother Jeffery Lilly; sister Janna Turner and husband Randy; nieces Katelyn Inge and Kenslea Inge; aunt and uncle Alvis and Beverly Jeffcoat; and cousins whom he adored.
He is preceded in death by his mother Janie Carol Jeffcoat; his maternal grandparents James and Loray Jeffcoat; his paternal grandparents Shorty and Vernelle Lilly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Compassion, International, or St. Jude's.
Arrangements were under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
