- Sue McAlpine was born April 14, 1930 to Bernice and Lennie Patton of Gustine. Her childhood years were spent in Big Spring and Stanton. She married Bruce Blumenthal in 1951 and they moved to Arlington in 1954. He died in 1956, leaving behind a young widow and two children. In 1960, Sue married W.C. McAlpine, from Arlington, where they lived until 1967 when they moved to Greenville.
In 1991, Sue returned to Arlington where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a beloved mother of two, grandmother of five, and great grandmother of seven.
She had an exuberant smile, an outgoing personality, and was a cherished mother, 'granny', and friend. She loved playing games with her children, grandchildren, and friends, where she was known to be 'competitive'. But mainly, she loved her family and all things 'home and hearth'. She loved cooking, gardening, and was a homebody at heart. She was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and watched them every chance she got.
She was a lifelong member of Park Row Church of Christ, where she made many close and cherished friends. She was also a member of the Woman's Club of Arlington, Bible Study Fellowship, and volunteered at Arlington Heart and Hands, Inc. She worked as a nurse for many years and loved her job, as she was a caretaker at heart. Her life was a beautiful example of generosity of spirit and selflessness. Her family loved her very much and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra Baker (Gerald); son Bill Blumenthal (Denise); grandsons Brandon Baker (Paula), Jeff Baker (Juliett), Ben Blumenthal (Taylor), Blake Blumenthal (Kim), and Tyler Blumenthal; seven great grandchildren, Jacy Baker, Kaylee Baker, Kayleigh Blumenthal, Kennadie Blumenthal, Bryce Catherine Blumenthal, and Brax Blumenthal.
A funeral service will be Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. at North Davis Church of Christ, 1601 N Davis Dr, Arlington, TX 76012.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to American Cancer Society and A Wish with Wings.
