Alvin Harris

LAMESA - Funeral services for Alvin Harris, 87 of Lamesa, will be Feb. 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church with Harry Pittam officiating. Interment will follow to Dawson County Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.

He was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Dawson County, to Frank and Georgia Mae (Young) Harris. He married Lynn Sealy on Mar. 3, 1956 at the Bryan Street Baptist Church in Lamesa, , they were married 66 years.

She started farming at a young age in both the Dawson and Martin Counties driving a tractor up until his late seventies, when he then learned to use his pointing finger instead. He served in the United States Army from 1958-1959 and also served on the board of the Flower Grove Gin for 21 years where he made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, going fishing and visiting Ruidoso, N.M.

He loved his children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren but adored his wife and her cooking. He really enjoyed seeing her come around the corner with his afternoon snacks ,especially his ice cream with chocolate syrup. Alvin will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived his wife, Lynn Harris of Lamesa; son, Brian Harris and wife Tracey of Lamesa, daughters, Rhonda Harris of Brownfield, and Patti Stewart and husband Brent of Lubbock; 8 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and his brother Melvin Harris and wife Juanell of Lamesa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Odie Harris, and O.C. Harris; sisters, Velma Harris, Silva Wren, Juanita Wolford, and Murleen Self; and infant siblings, Grady Harris, and Ruby Harris.
