Roland Tony Moreland

MIDLAND- Roland Tony Moreland died surrounded by family, on May 6, 2023. He was 72. He was born in Midland, in 1951. He was the eldest son of Clark and Betty Moreland. After graduating from Midland High School, he attended Tarleton State University, and later Sul Ross University. Aside from living in Stephenville, for four years, he lived his entire life in Midland. He loved the town of his birth and wouldn’t have wanted to live anywhere else, sandstorms and all.

In 1987, he met Nancy Hughes. By the end of their first date, he knew that this beautiful lady would be his wife. They were married the following September in a backyard ceremony. Rhey were married for 36 years and were inseparable. He loved her with his whole heart and will be waiting for her in Heaven.

He was passionate about teaching. His career spanned 34 years in three west Texas school districts – Midland, Stanton, and Greenwood. His mission in education was to instill a love of reading in his students. He never missed an opportunity to lead by example.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., May 11, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., May 12, at the First Baptist Church Chapel.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Midland Soup Kitchen, care of Jason and Nancy Ivy, or to Midland Meals on Wheels.
