STANTON - Ignatius George Peters was born on May 4, 1928, in Stanton, and died on Aug. 5, 2023 at the age of 95.
After graduating from Texas Tech and the University of Texas with degrees in chemistry, he served in the army for two years. Afterwards he married and had a long and successful career as an industrial chemist. He received several patents in radioactive chemistry but his lifelong love was ranching on his farms in Medina County and Karnes County.
His parents were Ignatius Peters and Mary Ann (Straub) Peters and is a descendant of one of the founding families of Martin County.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maria Luisa (Martinez) Peters from Monterey, Mexico and a son who died shortly after birth George Luis Peters.
He is survived by his children Rebecca Christine Peters, Jacob Paul Peters, Mary Benitez, and Mary Lou Carrillo. He has six grandchildren, Elizabeth Peters Hall, John Jacob Peters, Benjamin Peters, Mark Benitez, Robert Benitez, Samantha Benitez, great grandchildren, Peter Hall, Caleb Peters, Uriah Peters and other friends and family.
He will be buried at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Devine, on Aug. 16th by Primrose Funeral Services.
