GIDDINGS - A memorial service for Weldon 'Bobby' Powell, 75 of Giddings, is scheduled for Nov. 21, at the Hampton Inn from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Sweetwater. He will be buried in the family cemetery in Newman.
Weldon 'Bobby' Robert Powell was born Sept. 29, 1948 in Sweetwater, to William and Zilpha 'Whitten' Powell.
He received a Bachelors degree from Angelo State University. He married the love of his life Bonnie 'Neves' Powell on July 25, 1969 in Spur. To this union they were blessed with two children.
He worked several jobs over the years the longest being owning and operating Pal's Café in Ackerly for twenty years with his wife. He was also the assistant manager for K-Mart for seventeen years and then worked at Walmart again as an assistant manager for five years. He spent his free time outdoors where you could find him hunting, fishing, watching his grandchildren's sporting events, barbecuing, or attending car races. He also enjoyed watching movies, the OU football team and taking vacations to Ruidoso, New Mexico. Above all those things he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
He died Nov. 13, 2023 at his home in Giddings with his wife by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Zilpha Powell.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Powell of Giddings; two children, Angelia and husband Adam Bloodworth of Giddings, and Michael Powell of Scotland; three grandchildren, Bailey Bloodworth of Giddings, Kayden Bloodworth of Giddings, and Kooper Bloodworth of Giddings.
