Winnet Brown

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and family matriarch, Winnet Brown, who departed this life on April 19, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on December 27, 1933, in Knox City, Winnet lived a life full of hard work, strength, honesty, and unshakable love for her family. Known affectionately as "Granny," she was a woman who told it like it was-never sugarcoating the truth and never holding back when it came to what mattered most.

Winnet is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nathaniel Brown "Papa," her daughter Erma Brown and son Lloyd Brown, and leaves behind a legacy that spans generations.

She is survived by her children, sons Elvin Brown (wife Cheryl) of Midland; Vernon Brown (wife Sara) of Midland; Bobby Brown of Oakland, CA; daughters, Teresa Gandy (husband Tommy) of Tatum, NM; Della Applewhite of Tampa, FL; Audry Brown of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Quincy Brown, Demetrice Brown Williams, Jeremiah Brown, Zachary Brown, Luke Brown, Joann Brito, Christina Brown, Vernon 'JR' Brown, Julia Gaither, Kriston Applewhite, Kali Applewhite, Joseph Belsom, Jasmine Torres and Jessie Riley. She also leaves behind a numerous amount of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren as well as a brother in law Albert Blair of Houston TX, a host of extended family members and friends who were blessed to know her.

Her bond with her son, Elvin 'Beaver,' was something truly special, and watching him care for her in her later years was a testament to the love they shared.

A celebration of Winnet's life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11:00am at Evergreen Cemetery County RD 3501 in Stanton, TX. We welcome all who knew and loved her to join us in honoring a life so well lived. Rest peacefully, Granny. Hug Papa for us-we know you're already keeping things in order up there. We love you, and we will carry your spirit with us always.

The family would like to send a big thanks to the Martin County Hospital Emergency staff Kerry and others, for your love and care of our Granny as well as the hospice of midland staff in her final days. Nurse Lisa & Aids - Casey & Bethany.
