MIDLAND - Roxy DeEtte Green Zant passed away at home on Jan. 21, 2025. She was 85 years old. She was born on Dec. 26, 1939, at Pecos; her parents were O.J. Green, Jr. and Bonnie McMahan Green. She was educated in Pecos, and attended Southwestern University in Georgetown,
Texas, where she received a BS degree in Elementary Education in 1962. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, was a student athlete, and was active in student affairs. She was an elementary school teacher in Midland, at Sam Houston Elementary, when she met John W. Zant, a Glasscock County rancher and farmer. They were married in 1968, and they lived the rest of their lives working on the ranch. DeEtte liked to laugh, was a talented amateur painter, a fair hand at 42, and well-known as a crack shot with rifle and pistol. She ran a tight ship at home, and it is doubtful that her husband ever had to carry a plate to the kitchen sink. She and John had no children, and they are survived by nephews John Clint Hurt and wife June Fouche of Midland, and Patrick Hurt and wife Tia Lustig of New York City. DeEtte, a former Junior Leaguer, was devoted to volunteerism, particularly at Hospice of Midland, and would have appreciated any memorials dedicated to that cause.
