Cougars use massive second quarter to defeat Wildcats

KLONDIKE – A dismal second quarter hampered Grady’s chance of a road victory over Klondike on Monday. The Wildcats had a decent first quarter taking a 7-4 lead but Klondike stepped on the gas in the second quarter to surge ahead at halftime 17-7.

GRADY - Grady’s varsity girls basketball team split its two district games this week. The single win keeps the Wildcats in the hunt for a playoff spot. On Friday, Sands took control of the game early and ran off with the 52-27 victory.

STANTON – The junior high Buffaloes went toe to toe with the Coahoma Bulldogs on Monday. The seventh grade girls B team lost a close game in overtime 10-8. Nataly Duarte led Stanton with four points while Hannah Montanez an Zoe Martel added two points each.

STANTON – The Lady Buffs looked spectacular against Odessa but struggled in their next two contests against Sonora and Crane. Odessa Compass had little chance at victory as Stanton’s defense was at the top of its game. The Buffs scored 44 straight points and went on to win 48-4.

ANDREWS – Divers from across the Permian Basin converged on Andrews to compete in the UIL District 4-5A Dive and Swim Championships. Ethan Coronado was the lone representative from Stanton High School and easily won the boys dive division. Coronado finished the prelims with a score of 156.

COAHOMA – Stanton’s power lifter were in Coahoma over the weekend for the first competition of the 2021 season. The girls team finished fourth in the team standings and the boys team took second behind Big Spring. Girls' Results 132 lb. Class 1. Nicole Hill – 580 total 165 lb. Class 1.

STANTON – The Stanton high school basketball teams hosted the Coahoma Bulldogs last Tuesday in district competition. The junior varsity girls had a slow start falling behind 30-11 by halftime.
