Basketball season tips off with Rankin, Westbrook losses

GRADY - The Grady Lady Cats started the 2020 season 0-2 losing to a pair of tough teams. Saturday, the Lady Cats lost the season opener by a whisker to Rankin 39-37. Delaney Saunders led Grady with 14 points and Sydney Gonzales added eight and Mercedes Jimenez chipped in five.

Stanton’s playoff hopes ended with loss to Abernathy

STANTON – The Stanton Buffaloes lost a hardfought 34-18 contest to No. 20 Abernathy on Friday at Buffalo Stadium in Stanton. The Buffs gave Abernathy everything it could handle in the first half by taking a 12-7 lead.

Garden City rallies to clinch playoff berth

LENORAH – Grady’s branding iron hot start was quickly cooled by Garden City allowing the Bearkats to come from behind for a 59-34 win on Friday night at M.W. Tunnell Field in Grady.

Bearkats best Wildcats 41-12

GARDEN CITY - Grady junior high fell to Garden City 41-12 last week. Gunner Cherry had 16 carries for 109 yards. Marcus Brown carried twice for two yards and Charles Deatherage had one carry for two yards and a touchdown. Cal McMorries threw a 60-yd touchdown to Cherry.

State powerhouse too much for Buffaloes

STANTON – Idalou, the eighth-ranked team in Class 3A dispatched Stanton with minimal trouble, 56-8, Friday night at Buffalo Stadium. Maxpreps.com has Idalou climbing two spots from No. 3 to the No. 1 ranked team in Class 3A DII.

Junior high Devils burn Wildcats

RANKIN - It was a rough night for Grady’s junior high football team as Rankin rolled to a 34-0 victory last Thursday. Grady’s Gunner Cherry had 44 yards rushing and six tackles to pace the Wildcats.

Aaron qualifies for regionals

LAMESA - Grady cross country runners braved the 20 degree weather Monday to compete int he District 8A cross country meet in Lamesa. In the girls division, Yareli Rodriguez placed 13th and Makayla Oviedo finished 17th. Matthew won the JV boys race.

Coahoma sneaks past district rival Stanton 20-16

COAHOMA – The Coahoma Bulldogs scored the only touchdown in the second half to overtake the Stanton Buffaloes for its first win in District 4-3A Division II play on Friday at Bill Easterling Memorial Stadium in Coahoma.

Grady distance runners prep for disrtict meet

LUBBOCK - Grady’s high school cross country teams have had a busy couple weeks. The varsity boys competed in the Lubbock Invitational Cross Country meet on Oct. 10 and the varsity girls ran at Romp in the Park in Lamesa on Oct. 17. The Wildcats had two runners place in the top 15 to earn a medal.

Junior high Lady Cats win district title

LAMESA - The Grady junior high girls won the District 8 cross county meet on Oct. 19 in Lamesa. “We had four girls medal for finishing in the top 10,” said Grady coach Jacinda Langen. “I am so proud of every one of these young ladies. They have stayed after school to practice and worked very hard.
