Wildcats end season with victories

– The Grady Wildcats junior high and junior varsity basketball teams put bows on their seasons last week with wins over respective opponents. The junior high Wildcats had an exciting game against Wellman-Union.

Lady Kats face Bronte on Friday

– The Lady Bearkats split their two District 11-A games with Bronte and Blackwell over the last week. Against Bronte, the Lady Kats fell behind 12-5 after the first quarter and slipped into a deeper 22-15 halftime hole.

Bearkats thump competition

– No. 8-ranked Garden City had no trouble with Blackwell during Friday’s District 11-1A game at Bearkat Gymnasium. Julio Talamantes led the Bearkats with 13 points, Blain Walts had 12, Texas Brinkley scored nine and John Lopez and Kamdyn Roe had seven each.

Buffs with Stanton Powerlifting Invitational

STANTON – Stanton’s powerlifting teams competed in the Stanton Invitational this weekend. Both the boys and girls teams finished first in the team standings. Boys Division Results: Jacob Nollola placed second in the 114 class with a total lift of 650 lbs.

Mustangs top Wildcats in final junior high game

ACKERLY – Grady and Sands competed in junior high basketball action on Monday and it was an exciting contest. Sands used a big first quarter to take a 6-2 lead and Grady cut the advantage to 8-6 at halftime.

Lady Cats clinch playoff berth, play Anton Monday

GRADY – The Grady Lady Cats clinched a playoff birth last week with a win over Loop. Grady opened the game with a 25-4 run and held a 34-9 halftime lead. Another massive quarter pushed the Lady Cats’ lead to 42 points. Grady went on to win 61-15.

Junior high Lady Buffs wrap up seasons

– The junior high Lady Buffs battled Alpine Monday night in Stanton. The seventh grade A team won a nail biter 25-24. Cameron Carrol led Stanton with 10 points and Lauren Alvizo added nine points. Dax Madison and Leandra Gee tossed in four and two points respectively.
Brynlee Madison had a good day at the Martin County Junior Livestock Show last month earning Reserve Grand Champion Heifer. Madison also competed in the Fort Worth Stock Show last week and did great finishing third in her Class.

Wildcats still perfect in district play

– The No. 20 Grady Wildcats varsity boys’ basketball team picked up three more wins to stay perfect in district play and alone at the top of the District 8 standings. Last Thursday, Grady traveled to Loop and picked up its first win despite a dismal second quarter.

Three athletes make Lone Star Conference honor roll

WEST TEXAS - Three area collegiate athletes were recognized on the Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2022-23 fall semester. Grady grad and Midwestern State freshman softball player Sydney Gonzales.
