MIDLAND - Nora Gaylene Stansbery of Midland, died Nov. 23, 2023. She was born October 1963, in Stanton, to John and Judy (Polson) Wilkes. She grew up in Midland where she attended Burnet Elem. and Alamo Jr High. At age 12, she moved to Crownpoint, New Mexico, where she attended Crownpoint Jr. High and Thoreau High School. She graduated from Thoreau High School in May 1982 and was married to Jim Stansbery in August 1982. Gaylene and Jim moved back to Midland in September 1984.
She was an active member of the PTA, Girl Scouts-Brownie’s troop leader, loved the outdoors camping, kayaking, hunting, and fishing. She was a competitive sports shooter, appearing in five episodes of Academy Sports & Outdoors on TV’s Outdoor Network. She held multiple NRA Instructor Certifications, including NRA Chief Range Safety Officer. Gaylene was a Texas License to Care Instructor and Firearms Instructor.
She is survived by her husband Jim Stansbery; daughter Melodie (Stansbery) Yarbrough; son Kristopher Stansbery; twin grandsons Aidan and Ethan Himbury; and step grandsons Cameron Yarbrough and Caleb Yarbrough.
